Serving Children with Dyslexia

Welcome to the tutor information web page.

Make a  Real Difference to a Child with Dyslexia

One of the most important ways to help a child with dyslexia is to become trained as a dyslexia reading specialist.

Fairleigh Dickinson University is the only university in New Jersey with a comprehensive certificate program for training teachers in multisensory structured language using the principles based in the Orton-Gillingham approach.  These courses form the core of the nationally accredited Dyslexia Specialist Training.

The New Jersey Masons provide graduate scholarships to currently licensed teachers who qualify and who then do their practicum in one of our five New Jersey Centers.  The scholarship is for a two year period and the teacher scholars work one on one with children during the academic year. Usually, the teacher scholars  chose to do their practicum in the Center closest to where they live or work.

Additional information about scholarships can be found by visiting the Orton Gillingham Teacher Training website at http://ucoll.fdu.edu/orton

There are also volunteer opportunities at each of our Centers.  Please get in touch with our Central Office to explore these.
